In the 2011 International Photography Awards, I submitted three entries which picked up seven Honorable Mentions in four professional categories. In one category – Special (Moving Images) – all three entries were given Honorable Mentions. This was the first time I participated in the IPAs in various professional categories. Over 8,000 submissions from 90 countries were received for the 2011 International Photography Awards with over 70 jurors, the largest to date.

I posted a message on the Facebook pages of Pro8mm – a leading California based film services company specializing in Super 8 film – about why now is a good time for people to share their Super 8 films timed with the release of the Steven Spielberg-produced and J J Abrams directed “Super 8″. And as Pro8mm’s Phil Vigeant replied, “Ask and you shall receive!” announcing the “My Super 8 Movie” contest.

Held at the Goethe Institute/Max Mueller Bhavan, “Choreo-Photo-Graphy” examined a unique intersection: What do photographers see when they look at a dance? What do dancers see when they look at an image?

For the workshop exhibition – for which participants had to create their projects within three hours – I created two installations offering my perspectives on Choreo-Photo-Graphy: “The Idiot Box Killed The Dancing Star” and “If You Meet The Choreographer On The Way, Shoot Her/Him… Only Then Is Everything Fluid” (a performance art piece featuring dancer and fellow participant Elena Catalano).
