She Moves in Mysterious Ways
Photographed at a performance by Rukmini Chatterjee titled ‘Recontre’ (Meetings), this unique fusion of dance styles brought together European ballet, Bharatanatyam and Kathak set to classical European and Indian music. The performance was part of the Bonjour India 2009 festival.
Prix de la Photographie Paris Awards – 2013 – PX3 : Honorable Mention in the PX3 Blue competition which invited photographers to interpret the color blue, inspired by and in tribute to Polish filmmaker Krzysztof Kieslowski’s ‘Three Colors’ trilogy of acclaimed films.
Tangled
The eternal push and pull between the sexes. A visual juxtaposition of the trials and tribulations that test the delicate strands of love. Can real-life flower into a fairy tale? Photographed at a contemporary performance titled ‘Wasteland, Terrain Vague’ by French dance group Compagnie Kafig which blended hip-hop, flamenco and contemporary dance. The performance was part of the Bonjour India 2009 festival.

The Unmoving Center
Photographed at a performance by the Mawlaweya Dervish Dance group from Egypt, the inspiration and title of this series is based on an insight by Osho: “When the body is in a whirlpool, is simply moving, enjoying movement, suddenly you can become aware of the inner witness who is a non-mover, who has never moved, who is the unmoving center of the moving world. That’s why the Sufis became so interested in the whirling dervish dance. The more you whirl, the easier it is to know the non-moving center inside you. So start dancing…”

Photographed in 2009 at a contemporary dance performance titled ‘Assorted Impressions’ featuring four emerging women choreographers: Swati Mohan (‘On the Edge’ performed by Swati Mohan and Nimit); Manvi Saharawait (‘Change the Subject’, performed by Charu Shankar); Mehneer Sudan (‘Untitled’); Soraya Franco (‘Yoga-Dance’, performed by Asanarte).
